In the early hours of Christmas morning, 2024, Alfredo Alarcón Peña MD passed away in peace. A loving husband and caring father, he was proceeded in death by our mother Georgia Ann, as well as his sisters Elva, Olivia and Lucero and his younger brother Oscar. Dad was born in Chihuahua, Mexico on June 29, 1924 to Luz Peña and Benigno Alarcón. His elementary and high school years were spent between Chihuahua City and Monterey. He graduated from college at Escuela Bachilieres Universidad Nuevo León in Monterey in 1945. In 1952 he received his medical degree from the Universidad Autómona de México. Our father came to the United States through an exchange program in 1953 and received additional surgical training in Chicago, Salt Lake City and finally Atlanta. Dad was multifaceted and endlessly capable. During his youth he enjoyed baseball, football, boxing and bullfighting. During graduate school he played football for an immensely popular team in Mexico City, the Pumas. Dad loved all sports and was capable of playing any of them. His mind was exceptional and never failed him, even to the end. Our father spent most of his medical career in Atlanta, practicing vascular surgery. He reluctantly retired, yet it was difficult for him to set aside his love of medicine. To that end, he did occasional work with the medical service at Fort Gillum in Atlanta. Dad, together with our mother Georgia, moved to Nashville, TN in 2020 and lived within the loving community at Mary, Queen of Angels. Tragically our mother passed away in August 2023. Dad was never the same after the passing of the love of his life. He did, however, maintain his quick wit, profound knowledge of sports and politics, as well as his love and patriotism for Mexico and America. Alfredo is survived by his three sons Paul, John (Kelli), and Richard (Allison) and his grandchildren John Hudson, Richard Ferrell, Charlotte Anne, and Olivia Reaves. Not to mention numerous beloved nieces and nephews living in Mexico and Spain. We miss you, Dad. “Power to Power!” as you would always say to us. For 100 years, you were a loving father and husband, as well as a profound inspiration to all. May you live in peace with your dear Georgia in the eternal presence of our Lord Jesus Christ. Dad will be laid to rest next to our beloved mother, Georgia, in Fifield, Wisconsin in May of 2025.
