Carol Jean Martin, 78, of Crossville, departed this life on Monday, January 9, 2023 at Vanderbilt Hospital. She was born November 5, 1944 to Chester Van Clark and Evelyn Shafer Clark.

In June of 1979, she married Avery Martin and had one daughter, Carol Helena Casey, 42. They are both survivors.

She is also survived by two grandchildren, Elyas Lawson, 21, and Alexis Lawson, 19, of Crossville, three brothers, Bill Clark,76, of Daytona Beach, FL, Chester Van Clark II, 74, of Amity, AR, and David Clark, 71, of Smyrna, TN, as well as a great number of nieces and nephews and their children, and also some cousins. Her younger sister, Cherry Jackson preceded her in death.

Jean graduated from Union College in Lincoln, NE with an elementary education degree in 1967. After retiring from 30 years of teaching in public and private schools, she moved to West Virginia where she was very active in the Toll Gate SDA Church for about 5 years before moving back to Crossville. She led out in children’s ministries and was an outdoor enthusiast, as well as tutoring and caregiving in the community where she was loved and valued by her neighbors. Other interests included drawing, painting, horses, American Indian culture, traveling, gardening, cooking, canning, and helping others at any cost to herself.
