Carol Mcelwain

Carol Ann McElwain, age 70, died February 2, 2015 in Antioch, TN following a 15-month battle with cancer.
Carol was born August 4, 1944 in the Nashville neighborhood of Green Hills to founding Nashville Symphony members Charles Brownlow Hunt II and Lillian Vann Hunt. She graduated from Peabody Demonstration School in 1962.
Her first career was dance. She was a member of the Nashville Ballet society from 1959 to 1962 and danced professionally during her college years at Butler and Vanderbilt Universities including summer stock productions in Bar Harbor, ME and a run off-Broadway as Maria in West Side Story.
She danced with the New York City Ballet and studied with notables Albertine Maxwell, Joy Zibart, Madame Dubrovska, Martha Graham, Alvin Ailey and George Balachine. She continued in dance as a performer and instructor through 1968.
In 1972, after four years as a homemaker she began her second career, this time in business. Her business career was highlighted by 30 years at Ingram Book Company, based in Lavergne, TN. She retired from Ingram in 2006 as the Vice President of Sales Administration.
She has been married twice. Her first husband, Ben Alan Weaver (deceased) is the father of her two sons. Carol and Alan were divorced in 1972. She wed her second husband, Jack McElwain, on March 24, 1979.
She is predeceased by her brother: Charles Brownlow Hunt III; and stepson: Warren McElwain.
Survivors include her husband: Jack McElwain; sons: Christopher Alan Weaver (Dawn) and Bryan Andrew Weaver (Karin); step-daughters: Pamela Ann Dover (Harrell) and Karen Lee Lauer (Russ); grandchildren: Kathryn Nicole Weaver, Benjamin Alan Weaver, Alexander Vann Weaver and Emily Catherine Weaver; step-grandchildren: Kristi Dornan-Arlund (Chuck), Jon Judkins, Jarrett Dover and Jansen vanderSpuy; step-great-grandchildren: Lachlann Riis Arlund, Olivia Avedon Arlund and Nikolette Sixx Arlund.
Services for Carol McElwain will be held on Monday, February 16 (Presidents Day). Funeral service (10:00 – 11:00) at St Paul’s Episcopal Church, 315 Main St, Murfreesboro, TN 37130. Celebration of Life (12:00 – 3:00, with Memorial Ceremony at 1:00) at the McElwain home in Antioch, TN.
