Charles Eugene Hughes

July 2, 1963 — March 16, 2025

Shelbyville, TN

For those who knew and loved Charles Eugene Hughes, he passed away on March 16th, 2025, at sixty-one years of age. He was born on July 2nd, 1963, in Fort Bragg, North Carolina to Alice Marie Smith and Charles Edward Hughes. He was raised alongside his two siblings, Norman Hughes and Denise Old.

Charles moved to Tennessee in 1997, where he eventually had his three children: Charles (Elliott), Carleigh, and Clayton Hughes. Though a private person, those who had the pleasure of knowing Charles knew had a deep love for his children and those who were lucky enough to be close to him. He founded his construction company, Icon Home LLC, in 2007. His unmatched work ethic over the years guided him in housing families across the Middle Tennessee area until his departure from the home-building industry. Charles loved the outdoors, often taking his bikes out to enjoy nature and to embrace the peace and serenity it offered. His favorite pastimes included riding his dirt bikes and road bikes any chance he had. His iconic obsession with working on bikes and mechanics coined him the self-proclaimed nickname ‘gearhead.’

He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Marie Smith, and father, Charles Edward Hughes. He is survived by his children [C. Elliott, Carleigh, and Clayton Hughes] and siblings [Norman Hughes and Denise Old].

A family viewing was held in private to say farewell, and his body was cremated and dispersed to those he loved. His legacy will live on through his children and loved ones, and he will be forever remembered with love as a father, a brother, a son, and a friend.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund at Regions Bank will be set up to provide educational support for his children.
