Charles Alfred Root III, born in Greensboro, NC., at Wesley Long Hospital on November 30, 1930, to Charles A. Root, Jr., and Gertrude Carver Root. He lived in Greensboro during his early years before moving to Georgia and then Alabama to attend the University of Alabama before graduating in 1956. He served his country as a 2

Lieutenant in the infantry before being promoted to 1
st
Lt. and receiving an honorable discharge in 1955. After working as a research assistant and salesman, he retired from William S. Merrell Pharmaceutical Company in 1995. He is survived by his loving wife, Fran, Sister Mikki Dillon, devoted son Michael, daughters Karen and Pam, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Visitation and service will be held October 2, 2016 at Christ Church Cathedral, 900 Broadway, Nashville, Tn. 37203, at 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. respectively.
