Clarence Coakley, Sr.

February 6, 1932 — May 23, 2019

Most sorrowfully and regretfully, the Coakley family of Las Vegas, NV announces the passing today, May 23, 2019, of their beloved father Clarence William Coakley, Sr. We are saddened by the loss of our patriarch and honorable soul.On this Memorial Day weekend, we salute our father, Clarence W. Coakley, Sr., born February 6, 1932 in Portland, TN, for his dutiful and honorable, twenty-eight year service in the United States Air Force. After a distinguished service in the USAF, which saw the Coakley family stationed in France, Germany, Thailand, and the Midwestern US, Mr. Coakley retired to Las Vegas and Nellis AFB in August 1979. During retirement, Coakley worked at the Imperial Palace Hotel for six years before choosing to move back to Gallatin, TN to live with extended family – and to be closer to much better hunting and fishing than to be found in the desert! We extend our gratitude to the many nurses, caretakers, social workers and others who kept our father safe and as healthy as possible during his waning years at the nursing home.Mr. Coakley is survived by his older brother: Dr. James Edward Coakley; niece: Veronica Coakley Holman; and grandniece: Renee Shaw, all of Lexington, KY and niece Emma Jean Shaw (spouse, Ferrell) of Portland, TN. Siblings: Gill, Tollie and Carrie Mae preceded Clarence Sr in death. In Las Vegas, Clarence W. Coakley, Sr. is survived by his former wife of twenty-six years: Frankie; children: Paul (USAF Veteran), Katherine, Michael, Theresa, Clarence Jr. and Kenneth; and grandson: David Coakley.A private memorial celebration with Military Honors will be held once Mr. Coakley’s remains are escorted home.We thank you for your prayers and messages of condolence.
