Desray "DEZ" Anne Zamek 68, Nashville TN USA. Dez was born in Durban, South Africa on February 29, 1952 to her late parents: Thelma and Reuben Ashington…a leap year baby which is why she always looked decades younger than she was. Dez grew up in the small village of Ngqeleni in the Transkei in South Africa where her father owned the Coldstream Hotel. She went to boarding school at a young age and was educated at the private girl's school school Maris Stella Convent in Durban.Dez later moved to Cape Town to take a degree in fashion design at the Cape Town School of Fashion Design. Dez and Paul met in 1970 and were married in Cape Town, South Africa on Thursday February 14th 1974…a hot summer day in midweek. Typical for these 2 romantics.Dez's career included working as a designer, master tailor and pattern maker for both mass production factories as well as South Africa’s most renowned courturiers. Later Dez owned South Africa's most prestigious academy of fashion design.Dez and Paul moved to Nashvile, TN in 1985 and Dez's career continued as a successful designer and master tailor. Her clientele included many top entertainers and prominent members of Nashville society. Dez was kind, courageous, strong, compassionate, considerate, curious and was strongly against all and any form of animal and human cruelty, prejudice or racism. Stylish, poised and classic, Dez was a beautiful soul and a stunningly beautiful woman. Dez was a very keen gardener, yoga student, voracious reader, wonderful cook and always had a great spirit of adventure and loved traveling all over the USA and the world.Dez Zamek passed away from cancer on Wednesday Oct 28 2020 and was laid to rest on Friday November 6 ^th at 2:30 PM CST at Larkspur Conservation at Taylor Hollow. www.larkspurconservation.org She had a beautiful protea on her shroud.Dez was preceded in death by her parents, her mother-in-law Li Jacobs and father-in-law Alex Zamek.Dez is survived by her husband: Paul; brother: Graham Ashingtonl; sister: Jennifer Martens; nieces: Sian Haddow, Jessica Pereira, Sharry Brown; and nephews: Gary and Dereck Hirson.
