Donald Ray Hancock, 78, of Madison Heights, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2018, at theVA Medical Center in Nashville, Tn. Preceded in death by his high school sweetheart and wifeof 38 years, Carol Ruth (White) Hancock and his wife of 11 years, Patricia Ann (Sechrest)Hancock. Born in Marion, VA., on May 26, 1939, Donald grew up in Vancouver, Washingtonwhere he became an Eagle Scout and graduated from Hudson's Bay High School in 1958. Heproudly served his country throughout the Vietnam War. He retired as a Master Sergeant after23 years in the U.S. Air Force. He enjoyed photography, bowling, bicycling, wall ball andwatching sports of all kinds. He will forever hold the family’s "Jeopardy Master" Title. He was aDeacon of the Southern Baptist Church and supported the youth ministry by creating a busministry in his wife Carol's name. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Elementary Educationat Portland State University and retired working for Amherst County Schools in May, 2011. Heis survived by his four children, Bryan Hancock and his wife, Suzanne, Donna Hummel and herhusband, Joseph, James Hancock and his wife, Michele and Paul Hancock; twenty onegrandchildren whom he loved dearly, Jeremy Williams, Jessica Smith, Benjamin Hummel,Stephen Hummel, Melissa Hummel, Emily Howard, Suzanna Howard, Naomi Hummel, AbigailHummel, Katherine Hummel, Josiah Hummel, Nathaniel Hummel, Nicole Hancock, James Jr.Hancock, Michael Hancock, Marissa Henley, Matthew Hancock, Christopher Bilbrey, LashaneBilbrey, and Johnathon Cleveland; twenty four great grandchildren; his mother-in-law, DorisSechrest and two sisters, Judy Oliphant and Barbara Yates. He will be buried in WillametteNational Cemetery near Portland, Or. The family would like to gratefully acknowledge thedoctors, nurses and staff of the VA Hospital in Nashville for the wonderful care they provided.
