Dorothy Speight Harper, 88, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2020. She was born December 23, 1931 in Stayton, TN to Frank and Maurine Speight. She married Billy Harper in 1949 and they were together for 60 years until his death in 2010.She is survived by her three children: Ron Harper (Brenda), Kathy Watkins (Lloyd), Gina Altvater (Bill); five grandchildren: Robert Blankenship (Mayumi), Kristen Mueller (Dale), Cole Harper, Bryson Altvater, Siena Altvater; two great-grandchildren: Landry Mueller and Kipton Mueller; one sister: Joanne CarnicomDorothy ("Dordy") loved children. She loved playing with and teaching them. In her later years, she volunteered in the FLIP program mentoring metro public school children.She loved spending time with her family. She was a fantastic cook and the family rock. She was the "go to" voice for everyone.She loved traveling, whether it be her favorite storytelling festival in Jonesboro or globally where she loved experiencing different cultures and foods.Dordy was a life-long learner and a smart business woman. She was always reading and sharing interesting articles with her family, always up for an in-depth discussion on any topic.Dorothy lived her life serving others. In 2009, she was awarded Caregiver of the Year by the Alzheimer's Association for her loving care of her husband Billy.She was an active member of Bellshire United Methodist Church (1201 Westchester Dr., Nashville) for over 60 years where a memorial service will be held at 2 pm Monday, October 5. Visitation from 12 - 2pm. Interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery 3pm.
In lieu of flowers, Dorothy wished that donations be made to Bellshire United Methodist Church.
