Gary Dotson

October 29, 1946 — March 21, 2023

Brentwood

On Tuesday, March 21, 2023, Gary W. Dotson died suddenly at age 76.  He is survived by his daughter Michelle Behrman (Tony), and grandson Evan Chechack.  Gary was the youngest brother of Jim (Judy) Witt and Caroline (Asie) Crump.  He was preceded in death by his parents, James Corbin Witt and Ruby Browne Witt.  He was married to Julie Snook Dotson.

Born in Paris, KY, Gary was sent at a young age to be raised by Detroit relatives, Bob & Abigail Dotson.  Gary excelled in school, married his high school sweetheart, Donna (predeceased), and raised his daughter while working at GM.  He earned degrees at both Lawrence Tech and Univ. of Detroit Law schools propelling his career from the mail room to Director of GM Real Estate.

Gary retired and moved to California.  There, he remarried and pursued his interests in painting, sculpture, and antiques.  He later relocated to Utah and then Tennessee following the death of his wife, Juanita.  Gary spent his last days outside of Nashville with Julie, yet he was still a Detroiter at heart with a love for its sports teams and the city.  We will all miss this complicated father, husband, and friend every day.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11am, on March 29th at New Hope Church in Brentwood, TN.  In early June, a memorial will be held in Michigan.  In lieu of flowers, contributions to The Humane Society – HumaneSociety.org are appreciated.
