George Winkelman

Mr. George Howard Winkelman, age 78 of Nashville, formerly of Weed, CA passed away June 5, 2015 at the Alive Hospice Residence in Nashville.A native of Klamath Falls, OR he was the son of the late George William and Edith Cecile Barlow Winkelman. Following high school, George entered the United States Navy where he trained as an electrician.His skills from the Navy followed him into his professional career in Weed, CA. He became the owner of the local TEXACO service station, the laundromat, and finally Layton's Liquor Store. When he decided to retire, he sold his business and spent the next 14 years working at the Mt. Shasta Ski Park.George began his days reading the paper and working the crossword puzzle. When he had time he enjoyed golfing, skiing, gardening, travel, fishing and camping. Even while working, he found time to enjoy the outdoors with his family and friends.He believed in giving back to his community as well. He served on the Siskiyou County High School Board for 24 years, and was a member of the Lion's Club for many years.George was easy going and enjoyed life. He is survived by his wife of 60 years: Rose Bagley Winkelman; a son: Ron (Laura) Winkelman; daughter: Connie (Bill) Houston; five grandchildren: Brandon Kell, Jenna McClung, Kaylee Winkelman, Alyssa Winkelman and Cory Houston; and three great-grandchildren: Adeline Kell, Conner Rattigan and Amelia Rose McClung.His family will celebrate his life with private services.
