Glenn Eccleston

Glenn Rhodes Eccleston, 71, formerly of Schroon Lake, NY, passed away into Heaven on Friday September 8, 2017. He died surrounded by love, family, and the caring staff of the Palliative Unit at The Veteran’s Memorial Medical Center in Nashville, TN. Glenn had been battling a rare form of cancer for over 25 years. He was a true fighter and the strongest man we have ever known. Glenn was born to Rhodes and Edythe (Clark) Eccleston on June 1, 1946, in Norwich, Connecticut. He had one sibling, a sister, Diane (Eccleston) Wright. All proceeded him in death.Glenn graduated from a private Christian High School in Fall River, Massachusetts in 1964. Upon graduation he and his family relocated to Blandford, Massachusetts. Glenn attended Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts. Due to the Vietnam Conflict, Glenn left college and joined The United States Coast Guard in February of 1966. He proudly served his country on a ship called The White Heath. His service ended in February of 1972. He enjoyed his time in the service very much and was still friends with some of his Coast Guard peers.In June of 1968, Glenn married Linda (Bloom) Brideau and had two daughters. After 20 years of marriage they divorced, but remained close for the sake of their daughters and families. Glenn managed Bliss Dairy and Restaurant for 7 years. His true talent and gift was working with his hands. He turned his woodworking hobby into his own business, Eccleston Wood Products. In addition to selling his furniture at hobby and craft fairs, he opened several retail shops in Massachusetts.In the early 90’s Glenn and his parents moved to Schroon Lake, NY to be closer to his sister.
They all attended Mountainside Bible Chapel. Schroon Lake quickly became a very special place to Glenn and the entire family. Glenn once again started a business called Dusty Rhodes Antiques and Woodworking. His focus was refinishing antiques and bringing pieces back to their original beauty. His hobby’s included antiquing, auctions, estate sales, digging for old bottles, and eventually selling his items on Ebay.Glenn was a true family man and the greatest friend. If you were his friend he treated you like family. He was always joking around trying to get a smile or laugh from everyone.
Words cannot express how much he will be missed. He is survived by his loving and devoted daughters and son-in-laws. Keerie and Gary Thomas, of Knoxville, TN, Taryn Walker of Massachusetts and Thomas Walker of Franklin, MA. Glenn also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren. Nicholas Circone of Texas, Tyler, Madison, and Kennedy Thomas, all of Knoxville, TN and Adeline and Gus Walker of Franklin, MA. He is also survived by one brother-in-law, John Wright of Pottersville, NY, and so many adored friends.The family would like to thank the staff on Unit 2G at VAMMC Nashville. The entire team from the kitchen staff, to the nursing staff, doctors, chaplains, everyone involved, for their exceptional care of not only Glenn, but the family members during those difficult last days. A Memorial Service and celebration of Glenn’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at 11am at The Mountainside Bible Chapel, 165 US RT9, Schroon Lake, New York 12870. The service will be officiated by the Reverend William Bowman. An internment with Military Honors will immediately follow at The Severence Cemetery, 60 Stowell Rd., Schroon Lake, NY 12870.In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Glenn’s name to The American Cancer Society or The Brain and Behavior Research Foundation.Arrangements are being made by Nashville Funeral and Crematory Home in Nashville, TN as well as the Barton McDermott Funeral Home in Chestertown, NY.
