Harold Walter Pickel was born in Nashville, Tennessee in 1936 and passed away on March 6, 2019. He was predeceased by his parents Earl William Pickel and Alma Pobran Pickel and his siblings Dorothy Watts, Raymond, John, Charlie, Jimmy and William Pickel and an adored nephew Ralph Scurlock.He is survived by his wife Rose Coleman Pickel and his children Anne Sullins Pickel and William Coleman Pickel and his sisters Hattie Pickel, Marie Lightfoot and brother Donald Pickel (Rita).He spent his freshman year at Belmont College and transferred to Birmingham-Southern College where he played as point guard on the varsity basketball team. He graduated from ‘Southern and received his Masters Degree in Education from Peabody College in Nashville. After serving in the United States Army Harold returned to Birmingham-Southern as the varsity Basketball Coach and was the first coach of the college's baseball team. He was inducted into the Birmingham-Southern Sports Hall of Fame in 2006. After leaving coaching he returned to Nashville to work in his family business.Harold loved and cherished his family and friends and was a kind and gentle person who appreciated his life's journey. He will be deeply missed. A memorial will be held at a future date.
