Herbert Drane, Jr

Rev. Herbert L Drane, Jr, age 92 of Nashville, passed away November 27 at his residence.
A native of Louisville, KY, he was the son of Herbert L Drane, Sr and Thelma Roehr Drane.
Herbert was a graduate of Louisville Male High School in 1943. Following graduation, Herbert, at 17 years old, enlisted in the United States Marines. He was awarded 2 Purple Hearts from his service in the South Pacific with the 4th Marine Division. Even before his enlistment, Herbert had made the decision to become a minister.
Following his service he attended Transylvania College (1946-1948) and graduated from the University of Louisville in 1950. He was appointed the area manager of Kentucky and Ohio while working with the Westmoreland Sterling Silver Company and had three successful years before attending seminary.
Herbert preached for over 50 years with the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, and served 16 years as manager of Chapel House, where he received a HUD award for Superior ratings with no defects. He was passionate toward his work on improving standards for elderly in Kentucky housing. He served as President of the Kentucky Association of Homes for the Aging (KAHA) in 1976.
He was a 1946 Golden Gloves Light-Heavy Weight Champion in Kentucky and Indiana. Herbert earned the highest award for Property Management (CPM) as well.
Herbert often spoke of his proudest moments in life being the births of his 4 sons: Herbert III, Robert, David and Richard; the growth of his family through in-laws, grandchildren and marriage; and witnessing the 50th Wedding Anniversary of his parents.
Preceded in death by his parents and two sons: Herbert III (infancy) and David Nelson Drane (2016); he is survived by his wife: Dorothy Civils Drane; two sons: Robert Campbell (Kathy) Drane and Richard Alan (Kelli) Drane; step-sons: Daniel Foster (Carol) Brown, and Stephen Earl (Myong Hui) Brown; step-daughter: Cynthia Ann (Thomas) Rivas; grandchildren: Jessica Drane (Conner) Galvin, Olla Drane, Catie Brown and Julie Rivas (Austin) Mack; and great-grandchildren: Wyatt Galvin, Layla Jo Galvin and Wyatt Mack.
Herbert's wife, Dorothy, and family will receive friends on Friday, December 1 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at Brentwood First Presbyterian Church, 1301 Franklin Rd, Brentwood, TN 37027. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 1:00 pm, ending with military honors provide by the United States Marines.
