It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of James (Jim) William McMahon of Hendersonville, TN, formerly of Strongsville, OH and Farmingville, NY after a brief illness, on July 31, 2021. James was a loving husband to Rosemary (Flanagan) for 62 years, proud father of James Jr. (Elizabeth), Kelly (Barry), Jean (Michael), John (Jamie) and David. James was a doting grandfather to much loved Barry, Joshua (Diana), Andrew (Allison), Kyle, Michael, Chelsea, Julia, Patrick, and Alex.
James was born on June 21, 1934, in Bronx, NY, to James and Marion McMahon, and raised in Flushing, Queens along with his only sister, Nancy Pinto-Smith. He joined the Army in 1953 where he trained in California and served in Germany. James met and married the love of his life, Rosemary in 1959 and moved to Farmingville, NY where they lived and raised their 5 children.
James was a life-long learner earning a BA from St Joseph’s College and a MA from Stony Brook University and worked for The Long Island Lighting Company (LILCO) for 32 years. Upon retirement, James and Rosemary were able to travel the world and devote their time to their church and beloved grandchildren.
James was an active and dedicated member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Hendersonville, TN. Prior to moving to Tennessee, James was a member of both St. John Neuman Church in Strongsville, OH, and St Sylvester’s parish in Medford, NY.
James was deeply loved by all who knew him as a gentleman and the most loyal of New York Yankees fans. He will be greatly missed but forever in our hearts.
Visitation will be on Friday, August 27 at 12 noon followed by a Mass celebrating his life at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Hendersonville, TN at 1:00 pm. In Lieu of flowers, please consider donating in his name to the Disabled American Veterans at www.DAV.org.
