Hold to God's unchanging handJames Larry Pruitt was born August 10, 1947 to Howard William Pruitt Sr. and Irene Mooney-Pruitt in Nashville Tennessee. He transitioned from his earthly walk September 23, 2017.
James was educated in the Davidson County school system, attending Napier Elementary and Cameron High school. He loved sports and played basketball, and ran track which he excelled in at Cameron High School. In 1966, James won the TSSAA broad jump championship with a leap of 22 feet and 7 inches.
James not only loved sports, but he also enjoyed family and friends and could be the life of the party. He enjoyed a good time, and seemed to never meet a stranger. He also loved driving Cadillac's. He was employed with Peterbuilt for numerous years as a driver.
He is preceded in death by parents, Howard and Irene Pruitt; sisters, Mary Francis Garrett, Loistein Presley, Mildred Davis, Lorreta Pruitt and Irene Pruitt; Brother, William Pruitt.
He is survived by sons; Orlando (Sherita) Pruitt and Omega Q Harris; Daughters, Jameela (Curtis) Riggins, Stacey Rice, and Sharonda Brown; 7 sisters and 1 brother; many other relatives, friends and grandchildren, Omega Harris Jr., Major Pruitt, and Jahmil Rasheed. Also surviving are a devoted cousin, Wayne Mooney, and friends for life Kenny Keeling and Henry Smith. A graveside service will be held Friday, October 6, 2017, 4PM at the Greenwood Cemetery (820 Elm Hill Pike, Nashville, TN 37210).
