Jimmy O’Neal Gatlin

Nashville, Tennessee

February 24, 1938 – October 13, 2022

Jimmy O’Neal Gatlin, age 84, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at home on October 13, 2022.

Jimmy was born on February 24, 1938 in Lake City, Arkansas to Elmer and Maudie Gatlin. He served in the U.S. Army (SFC) for 23 years and spent most of those years in France and Germany.  He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and awarded the Bronze Star for his service. After Jimmy retired from the army, he worked in the printing business for another 20 years.

Jimmy was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He lived life to the fullest and loved spending time with his family and traveling. He considered France to be his second home and took every opportunity to visit extended family there. After retirement he enjoyed playing golf, working on crossword puzzles, gardening, playing fetch with his grand-dogs, and running errands in his old truck. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, and his laughter and dry and witty sense of humor will be greatly missed.

Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Raymonde “Monette” Gatlin; daughter, Carole Ozment; son-in-law and friend, James “Jim” Ozment; granddaughters, Kelly and Laura Ozment; and sister, Wanda (Delbert) Hathcoat. He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Michèle Gatlin, parents, siblings: Betty Jo Williams, Ola Mae Gatlin, and William T. Gatlin, and his parents-in-law, Raymond and Marthe Coullon.

A remembrance of Jimmy’s life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Adoration Hospice or the Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary of Mount Juliet, TN.
