John Leonard (J.L.) Teague, 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 in Nashville, TN.He was preceded in death by his parents: Frank and Ruby Dennis Teague; and his brothers: Fred Teague and George Teague, of Kingsport.Born July 1, 1931 in Newport, TN, he grew up in Kingsport, graduated from Lynn View High School and attended East Tennessee State University. He was employed at the Meade Paper Company, before becoming a Deputy Sheriff with the Sullivan County Sheriff's Department. Later, he worked as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor at the Midway Rehabilitation Center in Knoxville before retiring.During the Korean War he served as a Sergeant in the United States Army. He also served in the Tennessee National Guard, 278th Regimental Combat Team, for twenty-one years rising to the rank of Captain. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Kingsport.He is survived by his daughter: Pam Brown (Richard); son: Jeff Teague; granddaughter: Jennifer Thacker Gailey (Bill); grandson: Daniel Thacker; and great-granddaughter: Madilyn Gailey, all of Nashville. Also surviving is his sister-in-law: Myra Teague (George) and several nieces and nephews.Arrangements for a memorial service to be held in Kingsport are not finalized at this time.
