Joyce Boyd Fort

Joyce Boyd Fort passed away in a nursing care center on September 7, 2024 in Nashville, TN. She was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA on May 29, 1936. After college she married and moved to Nashville, TN where she raised her children. She lived briefly in New Mexico and then moved to New Jersey to care for her aging mother. She lived the last 20 years of her life back in Nashville.

 Joyce graduated from Germantown High School(Philadelphia), Maryville College, ‘58(Maryville, TN), Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro, TN (MA & MED), and the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque (PhD).

 Joyce spent most of her career teaching high school languages (French, Spanish, Latin) at Overton High School and Glencliff High School (Nashville, TN), The Webb School(Bell Buckle, TN), and was the head of school at The Menaul School in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She concluded her career teaching computer software classes in New Jersey while caring for her aging mother.

 Joyce loved all the churches she attended. She was a servant of Christ. She taught an adult Sunday school class at Forest Hills Baptist Church until her health worsened. She was a member of Community Bible Study and Delta Kappa Gamma. 

 Joyce was a caring and dedicated teacher. Her interest in her students went beyond the classroom, often providing a listening ear to many students during difficult times in their lives. She deeply cared for her children, friends, and neighbors.

Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, sister, and 1 grandchild. She is survived by her 3 children, 6 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.

 A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 28, at 11 am with Visitation beginning at 9 am at Forest Hills Baptist Church, 2101 Old Hickory Blvd., Nashville, TN.
