Joyce Catherine Garman, age 88, Nashville, passed away on May 9, 2013. Survived by loving brother Keith (Martha) and niece Kristin Garman; nephew Michael (Sherry) Garman; niece Karen (Kevin), great nephew Kiefer, great niece Keelyn, and Kip Dooley; nephew Mark (Shari) and great niece Sierra Garman.
Joyce graduated from Largo High and Florida State University before receiving a physical therapy degree from the Mayo Clinic. During these years, Joyce taught school and served in the military. She was an accomplished athlete excelling in softball, basketball and tennis. Her first employment as a physical therapist was with the National Polio Foundation in Warm Springs, GA. Joyce also worked with children in San Francisco and Washington, DC before retiring from the Metro Health Dept.
Joyce loved all animals but above all, she loved her dogs. She had many breeds through the years and won awards in obedience and agility training. She truly loved the friends that she made through the dogs and considered them her family. Joyce will be forever remembered and cherished by her friends and family. Any memorial gifts may be made to the Nashville Humane Society. A private remembrance will be held near her birth place in Florida at a later date.
