Kathryn I. Kane "Kathy", age 81, of Portland, Tennessee, peacefully went to her rest after her long battle with Alzheimer's on October 12, 2022. She was born on October 22, 1940 in Easton, Pennsylvania to Herman and Marjorie McCurdy. She would later be blessed with loving foster parents, Ralph and Phoebe Smith, who were foundational in shaping her lifelong faith in Christ.
Kathy met and married Eugene Kane, and after visiting Tennessee they fell in love with its beauty and its people. They spent a brief time living in different areas of the state, but would ultimately settle down and build their life and home together among the trees and hills of Hartsville, sharing 42 wonderful years together.
Kathy discovered she had a passion for music while singing at church as a little girl. She learned to play piano at age five and later guitar at age fourteen. She spent many years as a young woman singing and songwriting and performing country music, bringing her many opportunities to travel around and share her beautiful voice and storytelling with others.
Kathy's most passionate love of all though was singing at her church, where she was an active member of the Gallatin Seventh-day Adventist Church. Her voice was truly that of an angel to all who heard her sing.
Often you would find Kathy reading her Bible, praying for and with others, and sharing the love of Jesus with those around her. She loved spending time with family and friends, laughing and always wearing a smile on her face. She was a loving and caring person, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, always thinking of others and bringing joy into their lives.
She was not only a wonderfully talented and spiritual lady, but she also loved sewing, crafting of all kinds, cooking, animals, fast cars and shopping, and she especially loved Christmastime. She loved children, and she never knew a stranger. Her greatest gift though was sharing her love with all who knew her.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Eugene Kane, four daughters, Jacqueline (Glenn) Tomkins, Kimanca (Martin) Martinez, Dawn (Terry) Wambsgans, and Joline (Jason) Centracchio, two sisters, Hazel (Larry) Gladfelter, Marjorie (Don) Olezek, and a foster sister, Charlotte (Dalton) Athey, 17 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Marjorie McCurdy, Ralph and Phoebe Smith, a daughter Pamela Ramagosa, and a granddaughter Angela Martinez.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday November 13, 2022 at 2:00pm at Hendersonville Seventh-day Adventist Church.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in her memory may be made to the charity or organization of your choice.
