SHELHART, Kathryn Gene (Morrison), 89, of Brentwood died on March 19, 2018 after an extended illness. She was born May 28, 1928 in Toledo, Ohio, where she grew up. She subsequently lived in Dearborn, Michigan and Watertown, Connecticut before moving to Brentwood in 1977.Kathryn was the only child of Leonard and Iva (Roach) Morrison of Toledo. A graduate of the University of Toledo, on December 30, 1950 she married Robert Edward Shelhart at Reformation Lutheran Church in Toledo. They were married for 57 years before his death in April 2008.Kathryn is survived by their four children, Kathy (Harrison, NY), Susan (Brooklyn, NY), John (Milford, PA), and Mark (Nashville, TN), as well as two grandchildren, Nina (Brentwood, TN) and Michael (Harrison, NY).Kathryn and Robert lived in Toledo where she was a schoolteacher until 1958, when they moved to Dearborn, Michigan, where they were members of Hope Lutheran Church. In 1968 they relocated to Watertown, Connecticut, where she taught in the Watertown and Waterbury (Kaynor Technical School) school systems. The Shelharts were members of Trinity Lutheran Church, and she served as a member of the Watertown Town Council and a member of the Watertown Library Board.In 1978 Kathryn and Robert moved to Brentwood due to his job transfer by Scovill Manufacturing, then owner of its Schrader Division, located in Dixon. Kathryn was the first librarian of the Brentwood Public Library from 1978 into the 1980s, and was reference librarian at the Williamson County Public Library in Franklin for fifteen years until her retirement.The Shelharts were active members of Brentwood First Presbyterian Church on Franklin Road, where she served both as an elder and a loyal choir member and pianist. Kathryn and Robert were also founding members of the Martin Senior Center.Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 22 at noon, with visitation from 11:00 am, at Brentwood First Presbyterian Church, 1301 Franklin Road, Brentwood. Interment will follow at the Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery (Peagram), where she joins her beloved husband, Robert.Donations may be made to the charity of your choice, the Nashville Rescue Mission, Second Harvest Food Bank, or Brentwood First Presbyterian Church.
