Kim Thurston
Remembering Kim L.Thurston who passed away April 21, 2022.

Kim was one of a kind. Many things come to mind when we think of him; sarcasm is a main one. It was his love language. He had a very dry sense of humor. Was he kidding, or serious? You'd have to guess, because the fun for him was not letting you know for sure. A shirt that always reminds his brother of him says, "Sarcasm: just another free service that I offer." Yep. That was Kim. He was good at it, and always kept everyone laughing (How about that Chevy Corvair?)

But his chief characteristic was his tender heart. He liked to remain stoic on the outside, but his heart was soft. For people, and also for his sweet dogs, Angel and Puppy. Family was very important to him, and he was most proud of his son, Zachariah. Boy, he sure did love Z! Zachariah is his own person, but I see a lot of his dad in him. That made Kim smile.
Kim wasn't about quantity in friendships, but about quality. His closest friend was his brother-in-law, Virgil True. They shared a passion for firearms, food, and a good laugh. I thank God for Virgil in Kim's life.

Kim had numerous talents and hobbies. He was all about history, whether it was reading about it, or watching the History Channel. Kim also loved Lord of the Rings, an interest Zachariah shared with him. He was an amazing photographer, and a great singer. His dream was to move back to his home state of Michigan, and photograph all the lighthouses there. Unfortunately, that dream was left unfulfilled.

Kim had a tough life, filled with illness and heartache, but he pressed on. He achieved his goal of becoming a police officer, which was set in motion back in about the 9th grade. He was a patrol officer, crime scene technician, and a training officer for the Brentwood Police Department for 18 years. He loved that job! Before and after, he worked as a security officer.

Kim is survived by his son, Zachariah Thurston, his siblings Connie Brabaw (Richard), Sherry Gonzales (Jesse -deceased), Kathy Hansen, Curtiss Thurston (Roslyn), Jim Thurston, his girlfriend Deborah Ferralez, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and other family.

Kim was predeceased by his father, Leon Thurston, his mother, Harriet Thurston Balluff, and her husband, Gus Balluff, as well as his half-siblings Ron Thurston, Doug Thurston, Barb Thurston Zimmerman, his brothers-in-law Jesse Gonzales and Mick Krotzer, nephews Brad Hansen and Troy Brabaw, and niece Tammy Brabaw.

Kim would sign off every email with a funny tag, so I'm going to sign off with one of his favorites: "Politicians and diapers must be changed often, and for the same reason."
Happy homecoming anniversary, Kim. We love and miss you, but this isn't goodbye, it's see ya later.
