Louis Pilliod Ii

Louis N. Pilliod II, 80, passed away on July 9, 2015. He was born and raised in Swanton by his parents, Juanita and Lawrence Pilliod. After graduating from Swanton High School in 1953, he went on to college at The University of Notre Dame where he was a member of the track team, graduating in 1957. Lou returned to Swanton to work in the family business, the Pilliod Cabinet Company, but after many years of faithful service, his interests turned toward opening his own local business. He and his wife, Rosalie, opened the L & R Department Store in 1973, successfully growing the business until its sale in 1985. Always ready for a challenge, he and his wife then began a new career in real estate, working for DiSalle Real Estate in Maumee, OH, where they exceled for many years until a major decline in the housing market hit Toledo in the early 90s. Deciding to get back to what they loved most, their family and small business ownership, they relocated to Clarksville, TN in 1993, where they successfully owned and operated Rosalie's Hallmark until their retirement in 2011. Lou lived a life of service to his community. He was a reservist in the Ohio National Guard. While in Swanton, he was a proud member of the Exchange Club, and an active member at St. Richard's Catholic Church serving as President of the Parish Council, a member of the school board, plus many other committees. After moving to Clarksville, TN, he enjoyed singing for over 18 years in the choir at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Lou was also known as an avid runner and athlete. While at Notre Dame, he was a successful long jumper for the Irish. The love and pride he had for Notre Dame was with him to the end. His passion for running really began when he was in his late 30s, where he was competitive in his favorite distance, the 10K. He was a member of the Toledo Roadrunner club, and was often found running the country roads (in black dress socks). He also enjoyed playing in the Swanton adult basketball leagues, and enjoyed coaching basketball at St. Richard's Elementary School. Throughout Lou's life, one thing was obvious: his love for his wife, Rosalie. For over 53 years, they truly were together 24/7, working side by side in business and in raising their four children. The love and respect they had for each other was remarkable. He was an amazing father to his children, teaching them the importance of faith, family, community, and having a strong work ethic.He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rosalie; children Jennifer (Jeff) Zola, Joe (Julia) Pilliod, Renee (Chris) O'Shaughnessy, Cherie (Shawn) Carter, nine grandchildren, his sister Caroline Fraser of Ft. Meyers, Fl and Jack (Ana Elena) Pilliod of Mexico City. He was preceded in death by his parents, Juanita and Lawrence Pilliod, his sister Marguerite Pilliod, and brother-in-law, Donald Fraser.A memorial service will be held on July 18, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. Henry Catholic Church in Nashville, TN.
