On Thursday, October 24, 2024, Scout (Margaret Kathryn) Cerveny passed away in her home in Murfreesboro, Tennessee at the age of 25. 

 

She was born on May 31, 1999, in Geneva, IL to Dave and Karen (Demkowicz) Cerveny. She attended Batavia High School, Middle Tennessee State University and was accepted to study welding at Tennessee College of Applied Technology in Murfreesboro in January of 2025.

 

Scout was an extremely talented artist and was involved in music and theater in high school. She found her people in the Murfreesboro punk rock scene where she played in bands and supported fellow artists at venues and festivals in Tennessee. As well as having a passion for music and art, Scout loved her friends, camping, fishing, and animals (particularly frogs). As an activist for social causes including harm reduction programs, she impacted the lives of many and her legacy of compassion for others will live on. 

 

She is survived by her parents Dave and Karen (Demkowicz) Cerveny, her brother Tim Cerveny and sister-in-law Joanna (Snow) Cerveny, great aunt Georgette Zackey, aunts Kathy (Cerveny) Martyn, JoAnn (Vogt) Cerveny, Pam (Sheffield) Demkowicz, Kim Hope, uncles Tony Cerveny, Michael Demkowicz, Erik Demkowicz, John Martyn, and cousins Elizabeth Cerveny, Doug Cerveny, Lila Demkowicz, Joshua Demkowicz, Jim Demkowicz, Jane Blore, Phil Martyn, Tom Martyn, Alex Martyn and Kate Zaleya.

 

Scout was preceded in death by her aunt, Cindy Cerveny and grandparents, Judy and Tony Cerveny and Judy and Bob Demkowicz.

 

Celebrations of life in both Tennessee and Illinois will be announced at a later date. Donations in her memory can made to Borofondo Music Fest https://borofondofest.org/.
