Martha McDonald “Martie” Hawthorne, 68, of Lafayette, TN, daughter of Richard McDonald and Trinita (Torres) Escobar, loving wife of David W. Hawthorne, passed away on April 11th at Vanderbilt Medical Center after developing double pneumonia from her first round of chemo from small cell lung cancer.She is predeceased by her husband David W. Hawthorne, and her dad Richard McDonald. She is survived by her mother Trinita Escobar, her children, Bradley Smith of Boston, MA, Kevin Smith of Atlanta, GA, Teri (Grummon) Levy, husband Michael Scott Levy of Mt Juliet, TN and Lisa (Grummon) White, husband Justin White of Mt Juliet, TN. Martie is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Kaci (14), Joseph (13), Mason(10), Abigail (21), Hannah (15), Eleanor (13), Kaitlyn (19), Angelica (19), Bailey (13), Joshua (16), Rebecca (14), Nevaeh (3)and Cole.Martie held two associates degrees; one as a Registered Nurse and also in Paralegal studies. She worked as a Critical Care Nurse until her retirement in 2009. She loved the profession she chose, and made a difference in so many lives she took care of. She also took care of her late husband David who passed away in June of 2009 after retirement.The love they shared made her so happy. Following his death she always referred to him as her rock. She also loved reading, shopping, collecting certain items such as stamps, ceramic Santas, working on her genealogy findings, spending time with family, mowing her lawn, sitting on her back-porch, going to Gatlinburg, watching Vikings, Game of Thrones, the entire Twilight series (over and over), getting her hair done, pedicures, electronic gadgets, quilting, being a part of the dog rescues within KY/TN.Martie had two dogs of her own (Agnes & Buddy) and fostered 3 more dogs which were Boston Terriers (Stevie, Luke & Lucy) whom she adored.She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. We love you mom, you will forever live in us & we will cherish the memories of you.
