Mary Hedgepath

On Monday, September 18th, 2017, we had to share with God our beloved Mary Martha Hedgepath who went on to enter eternal life. Her spirit is carried by her three children (Lance Dotson, Kim Sanders, and Amy Pierce), her grandchildren (Brooklyn Dotson, Sarah Grace Dotson, and Carly Pierce), and her siblings (Edna Jo Avra and Maggie Gambrell) as well as an extended family of friends from every walk of life.
The world had no clue what it was in for as Mary Martha was born unto Charles and Margaret Hoes on June 19, 1949 in Cincinnati, OH where she was also raised. She attended college at Peabody University where she studied education. Her career had always been centered around helping others all the way from early childhood education to her extensive time spent in healthcare. Martha met Howard, her soulmate and husband of 35 years, while working at Crown Ford in Nashville, TN. They eventually settled and raised their family in Old Hickory, TN and had been residents there since the 1970's.
Life stood still for a moment when we learned of Martha's passing. It was as though all of our hearts took one long, slow beat in unison. That is how much she impacted our lives. You may have not seen or spoken with her every day, but each moment you had with her was precious. Those moments stay with you. She was so invested in the well-being of those she loved. You would know this when speaking with her. She would always ask how things were going on in your life never missing any detail of anything you had ever shared with her. She was selfless. It's not often that one individual can maintain deeply-rooted relationships with most anyone they encounter. Martha did this with no effort and it's simply how she led her life.
In her twelve years at Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance, Mary Martha influenced the office dynamic in such a way that she was regarded as "mother" of the office. Thing is... she was much more than that. She was a loyal friend. She was a devoted staff member. Her capacity to do all things effortlessly made her a pillar of the office. Not a day will go by that she will not be remembered for her wicked sense of humor, her silly jokes to pass the time of a dragging day, or her lending a shoulder for your worries despite whatever burden she may have carried at the time. We will all go on to rehash stories from her hippie days and her life with Howard, her unsolicited advice we soon sought after, and trademark dry sense of humor that constantly kept our stomachs in knots. Martha gave so much more than she took in this world, and we will forever be blessed to have had this lady be a part of our lives.
Martha is now reunited with her husband, Howard, and her parents, Margaret and Charles. Rest easy, Mary Martha Hedgepath! You touched all of our lives, and we are forever thankful.Service to be held at Eastwood Christian Church Thursday September 28th at 6:00pm.
