Mary Browne Nicoll, age 79, of Brentwood (TN) passed away August 11, 2015 after a brief illness. Mary was a resident of Brighton Gardens Assisted Living facility for the past 5 years and loved playing bridge and bingo daily.
Born in New Orleans, April 12, 1936 Mary graduated from Fortier High School and attended Loyola University New Orleans. Mary lived all across the eastern US, making stops in Key West (FL), Cupsaw Lake (NJ), Norfolk (VA), Jackson (TN), Knoxville (TN), Nashville (TN), Hendersonville (TN), and most recently Brentwood.
While living in Nashville, Mary broke the gender barrier in the sales department at WSMV-TV and then founded TravelMasters Travel Agency in Hendersonville with her husband, Wally, which they operated for nearly 25 years. Even while residing in Brighton Gardens, Mary continued to book travel for her loyal clients, to everyone's amazement.
As agents in the travel industry, Mary and Wally were always scouting the Caribbean for the perfect dive spot or barefoot cruise. They were frequently seen dipping their toes and snorkels in the azure waters of Tortola and Antigua.
Mary and Wally lived on Bluegrass Cove in Hendersonville and were avid boaters, making sure that all of their children shared their love of the water. The highlight of the summer was culminated in a Birthday Bash, complete with an oyster pot, thus melding her two loves: steamed seafood by the waters of Old Hickory Lake.
Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wallace Nicoll, parents, Stephen Francis and Pauline Aragon Browne, and brother, Stephen Francis Browne, Jr. She is survived by two brothers, John Thomas Browne and Patrick Joseph Browne, both of New Orleans; four children, Michael Aragon (Karen) Fitts of Nashville, Stephen Thomas (Rebecca) Fitts of Tampa (FL), Deborah Nicoll (Marty) Wells of Jackson (TN), and Wallace Ray Nicoll of Smyrna (TN); 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews too numerous to count.
A memorial service will be held by the family on Saturday, September 5 at First Presbyterian Church Nashville, 4815 Franklin Pike, Nashville, TN 37220. Visitation will start at 9:30 AM with the service following in Stanford Chapel at 10:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends remember Mary with donations to your local humane society or shelter.
