Mary Sadler

April 9, 1927 — October 12, 2016

Mary Neal Sadler, Mimi as she was lovingly called by her grandchildren, passed away peacefully in Nashville on October 12 ^th . She was preceded in death by husband, Ray Sadler, parents Joe and Lois Lewis Starbuck, stepmother Marie Jenkins Starbuck, and sister, Sylvia Joyce Bridges. She was a devoted wife and mother, survived by sister, Martha Harding, three children; Mark Sadler (wife Jackie), Becky MacMichael (husband Bill), and Suzanne Graham (husband Fred). Mary had three grandchildren, Rae Andreano (husband Rick), Dr. Daniel Gatewood, James Graham, and one great-grandchild, Sidney Andreano. Mary graduated from Perry County High School in 1945, then worked at Oak Ridge at K-25 Dispensary during WWII. In August of that year, an announcement was made to all the employees that their endeavors helped put an end to the war. The top secret work at Oak Ridge created the atomic bomb that had been dropped on Hiroshima. Her work there led Mary to New Orleans where she graduated from Charity Hospital School of Nursing in 1949. She worked at the VA hospital in New Orleans and then transferred to Nashville in 1950. From there she went to work at several Nashville hospitals and retired from Vanderbilt in 1994, after dedicating over forty-five years to the profession. Mary loved gardening, read avidly, relished moments with family and friends, and was an ardent Titans fan. She loved Davidson County, desiring to live her life entirely in Nashville. She was an active member of First Southern Methodist Church for almost sixty years. A memorial service is planned for Tuesday, November 15 ^th, beginning at 2:00pm at the First Southern Methodist Church (4409 Colorado Ave.,) in Nashville.
