When the Lord made Mellanie Sutton, He made her courageous, cleaver, fun and funny, steadfastly loyal, beautiful, and full of rhythm.
She was one of the 1st female drummers to hold her own in night clubs. Pretty and petite she was a quite a sight to behold sitting behind her flashy pearl drum kit, as she set the time and held the groove for the music she loved to play. Singer, dancer, comedian, and fighter, she was amazing; and, everyone who knew her loved her, especially our father. She never lost her love for music, but luckily for us, she had another dream she wanted just as much. She longed to be a mother but was told she would never be able to have children. But nothing is too hard for God!
When she fell in love with our dad he had 3, nearly grown kids in tow. A girl Suzy, and 2 boys, Clyde and Ted. She was thrilled, and just like that, a childless mother and 3 motherless kids were joined together by love for life. The Lord gave us a few years to cement our bond, then 5 years later the Lord blessed her with a miracle healing which gave our parents 2 more sons, Shane and Cody.
Our mom was so much fun. Behind her twinkling green eyes and that little twittering laugh beat the child-like heart of a jokester. Whether it was a love note tucked into one of dad’s sandwiches or a toy mouse in a cupboard, she was always ready to play an April Fools Day joke.
Mom loved the Lord! She received Him as her Savior early in life, and her love and trust in Him never faded, even during her darkest trials. His hand on her life gave her the courage to fight the good fight, and she was always ready to defend those she loved.
This amazing woman was a cherished wife, devoted mother, proud grandmother, beloved sister, adored auntie, and precious friend to more than we can count. She was surrounded by love to the very end. and lived to see her 5 children, 11 grandchildren, and even 2 of her 4 great- 4 grandchildren grow to adulthood.
We love you so much mom, and though we miss you greatly, we are all so tickled for you that you’re now with Jesus, and with dad. And we’re also comforted to know we will be with you again in eternity.
