Mond Updike

Raymond (Ray) Minor Updike of Cottontown passed away at Hendersonville Medical Center on Sunday, July 2, 2017, at the age of 72.Ray was born in Trumansburg, N.Y., on March 9, 1945, son of the late Minor and Alice (Robinson) Updike. Ray is survived by his wife, Karen (Huhta) Updike, of 53 years; two children, Michael Updike and Lisa (Tim) Updike Wells; one grandson, Ryan Updike; sisters Janet (Charles) Updike Warren and Martha Updike Hall; sisters in law, Gail Carman and Wendy Warren; brother in law, Tom Warren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and beloved Shih-Tzu, Kiki. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his parents in law, Donald and Elnora (Huhta) Warren and brother in law, Donald Hall.Ray graduated from Charles O. Dickerson High School in Trumansburg in 1963. He served in the United States Navy from 1963-1967, including one tour in Vietnam aboard the U.S.S. Ranger, and he completed his tenure aboard the U.S.S. Columbus. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, Ray was an integral part of a small team who worked with Robert Moog, who is recognized as the inventor of the modern synthesizer. Ray was credited with being the first Moog repairman in history. He was a talented drummer who loved to play and enjoyed honing his technical skills. Ray also enjoyed working on small projects in his garage, woodworking and spending time with his family. At his request, there will not be a service.
