Rachel S. Tarleton

Rachel Schrader Tarleton, 97, passed away on August 12,2023 in Nashville, Tennessee, with her family by her side. Born in Enoree, SC, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Lillian Schrader, and the stepdaughter of the late Sudie Schrader.

Rachel was predeceased by her loving husband, Harold, to whom she was married for 61 years. She is survived by Thad (Jean Anne) and Eric (Helen) of Nashville, and Hara Knight (Phil), of Greenville SC. Her grandchildren include Jake Knight (Alison), Erin Calderon (Roberto), Isla Tarleton and Steven Tarleton. She had 5 great grandchildren; Lawson, Gavin, Mateo, Mikae and Ezra.

Rachel grew up in Spartanburg, SC, and was a graduate of Limestone College. She and Harold developed, with partners, the Terra Pines Estates neighborhood, and were charter members of St. Giles Presbyterian Church. Rachel will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, friend and grandmother; with a passion for learning and reading, her quick wit, as well as encouraging and supporting her children and grandchildren in all their endeavors. Her gracious Southern hospitality was legendary; she opened her home to many friends, acquaintances, and even the occasional stranger.

Rachel's family would like to thank Enhabit Hospice and Brookdale Senior Living for their gentle care and loving assistance in her final days. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Nashville.
