Richard (Dick) Van Amerongen, age 79, passed away in Nashville, Tennessee on Wednesday, March 08, 2023. The son of Leo & Leona Van Amerongen, he was born September 3, 1943 in Grand Rapids Michigan. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Beverly (Cosgrove) Van Amerongen, sister Jean Ellis Grand Rapids, MI, brothers Jerry Van Amerongen Minneapolis, MN, Donald (Chris) Van Amerongen Sebastopol, CA, his beloved cats Gus and Molly, several nieces and nephews, and many friends. Dick was preceded in death by his parents. Dick graduated from Ottawa Hills High School in 1962, where his passion was playing center on the basketball team. After graduating, he received his college degree(s) and was an elementary teacher for a short time before landing in a field that he loved, sales of hifi equipment. He retired in 2009 from HiFi Buys in Nashville where he enjoyed a long and successful career. Dick was a huge sports fan, especially for his Tennessee Titans where he held season tickets. He enjoyed traveling, but his favorite destination was South Haven Michigan which he frequented for many years, renting a house by the beach and bringing family and friends together. Prior to the pandemic, this was an annual party, with plans for another visit this year. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date to be announced.
