GySgt Robert Kenneth Berg (USMC Rtd), age 89 of Hermitage, died September 9, 2015.
Born October 13, 1925 in Mt. Pleasant, PA, he was the son of Peter Lohr Robison Berg and Anna Gratzinger Berg.
Robert joined the United States Marines in 1944 and made a career of service to his country, serving in WWII and Korea, retiring in 1966. A survivor of the Battle of The Chosin Reservoir, he was a member of the "Chosin Few".
Outside of service, Robert was a loving husband, adoring father and proud grandfather. He loved his family and shared his love of God with them. He continued his service to others as a long-time deacon, serving many churches, most recently being Lincoya Hills Baptist Church in Donelson. He also served as Business Manager for Harding Academy, until his final retirement in 1997.
In his free time he was an avid golfer and talented musician, playing clarinet and piano, and singing in the choir.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Grace Wallace Berg; son: Robert Kenneth Berg, Jr of Hermitage; daughters: Leslie Berg Pastore of Somerset, KY and Stephanie Berg Leisenring of Arlington, VA; 5 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
With full military honors provided by the United States Marine Corps, and assisted by the Marine Corps League, GySgt Berg will be laid to rest on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at 1:00 pm in the Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. Additionally, a Celebration of Life Service will held on Saturday, September 19, 2015, 2:00 pm at Lincoya Hills Baptist Church, Donelson, TN.
