Samuel Berry

Samuel Edward Berry, 85, of Gallatin, TN, formerly of Owensboro, KY, and Wildwood, FL, passed away on October 11, 2015. Born February 3, 1930, Sam graduated from St. Francis Academy and Brescia College of Owensboro, KY with a Bachelors degree in Accounting. He entered the Air Force in 1948 and during the Berlin airlift, in Germany, as an aircraft mechanic. His wife was Louise Beaulieu, who predeceased him in 2007 after being married 55 years. He is survived by his three children: Cindy Warner (Jackie, deceased) of Hendersonville, Jeanne Perkins (Steve) of Gallatin, TN, and Vince Berry (Gisele) of Murfreesboro, TN; his four grandchildren: John Warner (Lindsey), Sam Warner, Nathan Berry and Spencer Berry; one great-grandchild: Kylie; and many nieces and nephews who called him "Uncle Sonny." He is also survived by a sister: Beverly Wimsatt of Dayton, OH; sisters-in-law: Margaret Berry of Owensboro and Genie Berry of Danville, KY; and brother-in-law: John Greenwell of Cary, NC. Sam was predeceased by his sisters and brothers: Mary Alice Greenwell, Virginia Bishop, Clara Garant, William Berry and Robert Berry; and parents: Clara Collingwood Coleman and William Lucian Berry. Family was ultimately important to Sam and they will truly miss his kindness, love and generosity. He worked for 40+ years on the Berry and Coleman family histories, discovering all Berry relatives back to the first settlers of this country. Sam was an avid golfer and a political "junkie." He was employed at Owensboro National Bank and retired from the IRS as an agent and special agent in 1990 after receiving several commendations. He retired to Wildwood, FL in 1990 with Louise and returned to Owensboro in 2002. Sam was a life-long Catholic and most recently attended St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Gallatin, TN. A memorial service will be held in the small chapel at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Hendersonville, TN on Friday, October 16 ^th at 6 PM. Burial will be at Kentucky Veterans West Cemetery, 5817 Fort Campbell Blvd in Hopkinsville, KY on October 16 ^th at 10 AM. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of masses at his church, St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 449 N. Water Street, Gallatin, TN 37066, or his daughter Cindy's church that he also attended, Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 1729 Stop 30 Rd, Hendersonville, TN 37075, or the American Heart Association. The family would like to thank all the compassionate and loving caregivers at Alive Hospice and also the excellent care he received from Robert Wheatley, MD and his staff at Centennial Heart in Nashville.
