Sarah Catherine “Ceci” Brown Smith, Age 90, January 30, 2019Born August 1, 1928, in Chattanooga to Webster C. Brown and Kathrine P. Brown. She was raised on Lookout Mountain and was a graduate of the Girls Preparatory School in Chattanooga, attended Mary Baldwin College and graduated from the College of Wooster. She then worked for Capital Airlines in Washington, D.C. before moving home to Tennessee, settling in Nashville to raise her family. She participated in numerous volunteer activities, including The Junior League of Nashville and Candy Stripers. Later in life, she worked in banking as well as for various state and federal government agencies.She is survived by sister Betsy (Happy) Shadden of Asheville, NC and daughters Cathy (Jimmy) Scott, Killen, AL, Betsy (Tom) Morgan, White Bluff, TN, and Valerie (John) Hartong and Kim Sewell, both of Nashville; grandchildren Nick (Britt) Hahn, Emily (Chris) Reischman, Sarah (Tony) Anetrella, Margaret (Michael) Hausman, and Alex Sewell; and great-grandchildren Elliott and Catherine Reischman, Joseph and Cora Anetrella and Hayes Hausman, along with several nieces and nephews.She taught her children manners, correct grammar and the love of all animals, especially her dogs, all of which she is smothering with kisses in heaven. In lieu of flowers and in Ceci’s memory, donations may be made to Proverbs1210rescue.org or petcommunitycenter.org . The family would also like to thank the residents and staff of Southerland Place for their care and concern, as well as the staff of Willowbrook Hospice.A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM EST February 7, 2019 at Forest Hills Cemetery in Chattanooga, with Pastor Jim Bachman officiating. Pall bearers are her sons-in-law, grandsons and Mike Hill, whose friendship, kindness and assistance were invaluable to her and the family.
