Shelia Jo Flippen passed away on March 26, 2015. Shelia was born on September 14, 1964 to, and preceded in death by, John R. Flippen and Patricia A. Long; she was 50 years young. A resident of Hendersonville, Shelia is survived by her brother, Tracy Flippen, her daughter, Raven Davidson, and two grandchildren, Matthew and Carlie Davidson. Shelia wished to be cremated, and the family has complied with her wishes.
Her family will be celebrating her life with a service at the Cole & Garrett Funeral home in Goodlettsville, Tennessee on April 12, 2015 at 2 p.m. with a visitation preceding the service at 1 p.m.On March 26, 2015, Shelia Jo Flippen passed away at St. Thomas Hickman Hospital after her 10 month battle with cervical cancer. After undergoing one full round of chemo ending in December, she decided to undergo a drug trial in March to eradicate the remaining 20% of the cancer. Unfortunately, after one treatment with the trial she got sicker, and two weeks later on March 22, 2015 her daughter, Raven Davidson, took her to the hospital and checked her into the ER.
Unbeknownst to Shelia and her family, the cancer had spread to her liver and it was shutting down. Her kidneys were operating at 20% capacity. The family’s next step was to ensure her comfort with pain management until the time came for her to pass. She was moved into Hospice care at St. Thomas Hickman Hospital on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 to be closer for her daughter and grandchildren to visit. After a particularly rough night in which her vitals declined and she became lax and unresponsive, Shelia passed away a little after 9 a.m. Thursday, March 26, 2015.I would like to thank all my mother’s friends and family members for the calls, support, and messages sent to and about my mother. She was a strong and independent woman that loved her friends and family as fiercely as a person could. Your continued thoughts and prayers for our family at this time are appreciated.
