Steven Adkins

July 3, 1946 — September 27, 2015

We celebrate the life of Steven Kent Adkins, who passed on September 27, 2015 after a long illness with ALS. Steve was born July 3, 1946 in Anderson, IN and grew up in Columbia, IN. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 52 and became a Life Scout, Troop Leader, and God & Country Award Recipient. In high school he ran track and played on a SCC championship football team. After graduating from Milligan College in 1969, Steve started his career with Ford Motor Company in Chicago, as a Customer Service Rep. He went on to become an Area District Manager with American Honda Motor Company and eventually fulfilled his dream of becoming an automotive dealer with Honda in 1980 in Ocala FL, with his father and brother-in-law. He expanded his dream to include Acura, BMW, Subaru and Isuzu. This was the first combined Honda/Acura Dealership in the United States. He concluded his career with Andrews Cadillac in Brentwood and went on to become their top salesman year after year. Besides his automotive career, he was active in the Christian Church and Brentwood Baptist Church. He was a deacon in both denominations and his advice and expertise were greatly valued. His favorite way to serve our Lord was to visit the sick in area hospitals. He was an encourager and mentor to all he met. Steve was also President of the Ocala Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. Steve and Judith met in September 1965 at Milligan and were married the following year when he was 20 and she was 18. "He was the perfect man for me," recalls his wife. They celebrated their 49 ^th wedding anniversary on September 3, 2015. Steve was a good son to his parents, always watching out for them. He was a loving father to his children and grandchildren. Steve's life will continue to be honored by his wife: Judith Kay Hancock Adkins; sons: Brian Steven Adkins and Kenneth Neil Adkins; grand-daughters: Andrea Cerisse Adkins and Shelby Alysse Adkins; parents: Kenneth Harold Adkins and Evelyn Louise Adkins. He will also be missed by his former daughter-in-law: Corinna Adkins; sister: Lynne Anne Adkins Reames; three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews, as well as all his co-workers and friends. Memorial services will be held at Brentwood Baptist Church, Baskin Chapel on Saturday, October 3 at 11:00 AM. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to the service at 10:00 AM.
