Houston Wood left this life on April 16, 2018 at the age of 65. Born in Nashville, February 4, 1953, he was predeceased by his parents, James "Jasper" and Rosalyn Wood, and infant son W. Houston Wood, Jr.He is survived by his loving wife Claudia, daughter Mary Chase Gower (Evan), and grandchildren Van and Everleigh. He is also survived by brothers, Mike (Anh Mai Tran), Tommy (Susie), and Price (Jane) Wood.Houston graduated from David Lipscomb High School in 1971, attended the University of Tampa on an athletic scholarship, then transferred to MTSU and later graduated from David Lipscomb College in 1975. It was at Lipscomb that he met the love his life, Claudia. Their 43-year marriage was truly a life-long love story, with lots of laughter, friends, family and golf. They enjoyed many trips together to Hawaii, Europe and golf courses across the country; but they were just as happy spending quiet times at home with each other. After college, he briefly coached football at Lipscomb before joining his father and brother in the financial field, where he continued a life-long and successful business. Houston credited both his dad and his brother, and other "tremendous mentors" through the years, with helping him along the way. He was so proud when his daughter Chase joined the firm 15 years ago. And another thrill for him was when his son-in-law, Evan, joined him in business in the last several years. An all-round athlete, Wood was the first president of Music Water Ski Club. He played in pool tournaments across the country with Billiards Congress of America and was an avid golfer at Temple Hills Country Club.A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held May 2 at Temple Hills Country Club from 3-5 pm. Golf attire is welcome.
