Willie Redmond

Willie James (Billy) Redmond, died March 30 at his home in Smyrna, Tennessee. He was born February 23, 1950, in Savannah, Georgia to Willie and Maggie Redmond. He graduated from Beach High School in 1968 and Savannah State College in 1972 with a degree in engineering. Shortly after graduation from college, he married Sharon Grant and moved to Oak Ridge, Tennessee where he worked at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory as an engineer for 32 years. In his free time, he volunteered to coach youth sports in Oak Ridge over a span of 30 years. In addition to coaching, he also enjoyed swimming and bowling during his leisure. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Maggie Redmond, and his brothers, Charles and Earl Redmond. He is survived by wife, Sharon Redmond; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jamie & Dawn Redmond, Scotty & Kimberly Redmond, and Bradley & Tamara Redmond; grandchildren, Brittany, Braylen, Taylor, Brontel, Cade, Tatum, and Talia Redmond; great grandchild, Jayveon Brown; siblings, Martha (James) Bellinger, Victoria Tukes (Louie), and Morris Redmond, three sisters-in-law, six brother-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.There will be a small family gathering in Oak Ridge, Tennessee to honor the memory of Billy Redmond. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family of Mr. Redmond would like contributions to the American Cancer Society in his memory.
